Before We Install Anything
We don't start with the charger. We start with your switchboard.
A charger is only as good as the supply behind it. Here is what we look at before recommending a unit, a charging speed or any board work.
- Single-phase or three-phase supply
- Main switch and service rating
- Existing load: cooktop, hot water, air conditioning, pool
- Spare capacity for a dedicated 32A circuit
- Available switchboard space and RCD protection
- Cable route from the board to the parking spot
- Indoor or outdoor mounting and weather exposure
- Solar and battery integration, if fitted
- Where the car's charge port sits when parked
- Future plans: a second EV, a battery or a board upgrade
A charger does not add capacity to your switchboard.
If your supply is already close to its limit, adding a 7kW charger can push it past. We will tell you plainly whether you need load management or a board upgrade to charge safely, instead of installing a charger that trips the main switch.

When To Call
Signs You May Need EV Charger Installation
Not sure it is worth a call? These are the everyday signs worth mentioning — you do not need to diagnose anything yourself.
A portable charger on a 10A socket adds roughly 10 to 15km of range per hour. It also runs that socket near its limit for hours at a time, which is not what a general power circuit was designed for.
What to do: tell us your daily driving and we will size a charger to match.
Heat at the socket is a sign the connection is carrying more than it should. Left as is, it degrades the terminals and the risk climbs with every charge.
What to do: stop charging from that socket and call us - this one should not wait.
Sharing a circuit with a fridge, a garage freezer or the laundry means the breaker is doing exactly what it should when the charger pushes it past its rating.
What to do: we will put the charger on its own circuit, sized for the load.
Ceramic fuses, no spare ways or a board already carrying an induction cooktop, air conditioning and a hot water system may not have room for a 32A charging circuit without changes.
What to do: send us a photo of the open board and we will tell you what it can take.
Lead times on chargers, switchboard work and any network approvals are easier to manage before the car is sitting in the driveway.
What to do: book the assessment now so the charger is ready when the car arrives.
Charging outdoors is fine when the charger and its cabling are rated for weather, mounted properly and protected the way an outdoor circuit has to be.
What to do: we will recommend an outdoor-rated unit and a sensible mounting point.
